Biodiversity
As we have already learned, the world’s physical environment is composed of 4 different systems (atmosphere, biosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere) that are not separate entities but interact upon each other and have a profound effect on human existence. The systems are dynamic and constantly changing in response to natural processes and human activity. In this unit, we are concentrating on biodiversity, which refers to the variety of biological life. It includes genetic diversity, species diversity and ecosystem diversity. As we can see in the image below, sustaining biodiversity is of integral importance for our planet and our human health. |

Case studies in different parts of our planet
Nearly all nations and most governments have recognized the urgent need to sustain biodiversity as it is a crucial factor for our planet's survival; but not all projects are successful and not all nations have the means or determination to do what is inevitable and necessary in the long run. Therefore, let us have a look at interesting projects which are trying to sustain biodiversity. |
